"As this new period of golus for Jews in America develops, we may have to readjust many of the time-honored ways that we operate to conform to a tzafonah model."

Really? My religious foster grandmother said similarly in New York City of the 1930s (long before Jewish enclaves like Crown Heights, Queens, Lakewood and the 5 Towns were topics of conversation elsewhere) when her sons were beaten up by nearby Catholics on their way home from Hebrew school. That was when she decided that they were going to ASSIMILATE. To make a long story short, out of 4 boys, only one goes to synagogue - Conservative - and his son married a non-Jew, with his approval!

I don't know how one stays observant with the kind of pressure these people are coming under, which they have never seen before. I hope they can see their way to leaving for Israel; even with all our problems and craziness, at least they're OUR problems and OUR craziness, and up to us to solve them.

At least you dont have a massive gay parade in the US like you do in israel.

Genoism, there are many gay "pride" charades in the US. Many years already. :(

Yes you are right, but not jewish gay prides....And when you compare the percentage of people who show up to these parades in the US with Israel, the numbers are largely disproportional, for more show up to the ones in israel....sadly mostly jews - no so in the US.

As R Mizrachi said once, from the goyim Hashem does not expect much. From us however he does. Not quoting him here exactly word by word - but it's like this...when one jew shows up to the gay parade, its like a 1000 goyim show up to their own parade. They don't create a chillul hashem on top of it, we do.

Oops, Genoism, I overlooked the Jewish element of Jewish pride parade etc...

This is absurd!
"entering a new golus mode", "lowering our profile", "not to stand out", etc.
How about trying to leave Golus?
The author doesn't even hint at the possibility of making Aliya as a solution.

Probably because going to israel isn't necessarily the solution. Ever think of that one?

Such pathos: "Never in the history of our 2000-year golus have we had it so good," etc.

Perhaps this is a wake up call in that many Jews, even those who learn Torah, have been blinded by the material wealth that America offers. It's time to open up the books. It's time to examine the Torah, Prophets, and Writings, the words of Chazal and the great rabbis of old, and ask the question, "Does God want us to live in the land of Obama, or in the land of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?"

The answer is obvious, to anyone who is not blinded by his large suburban home and the SUV in its driveway.

Should I laugh or cry? I expect the non-observant Jews in America to be tone deaf to issues the article raises. But after 20+ years of residing in HaAretz, nothing surprises me anymore about the observant Jews remaining steadfast in the refusal to even mention the idea of aliyah in the context of the end of the Golden Age in America, other than a paltry few thousand per year, who muster the courage to leave the golus and come home.

I get that for many, aliyah is difficult, and perhaps not even the least bit realistic. But, being in high tech myself, and having seen the high tech market up close and personal, I think it's fair to state categorically that there should not be a single frum Jew living anywhere in chu"l who works in high tech, period. High tech jobs are available in abundance. The pay is even comparable to the US today. The common language is English. Get out while the getting is good!

Genoism, the fact that frum/religious Jews in America refuse to come to Israel because of the gay-pride parades has 2 negative effects on ALL JEWS:

1. It increases the percentage of Jews at these parades in E"Y hugely.

2. It decreases, by huge amounts, the opposition to the parades in E"Y. The only opposition that counts is that of Jews who live here.

It is only natural that in the Jewish state, the largest number of actors in any sense are Jews. How about trying to tip the balance in our favor for a change - not just for those who now live in Israel, but for the whole Jewish People!

I'm not saying that's the only reason, just pointing out one. I'm showing that israel is not at the moment that much of a better place than israel. You don't have people making laws against the torah on a daily basis. Often even twisting the facts on purpose. You don't have a knesset in the US which is hell bent on making laws that seem to aim to specifically anger god.

In the US you don't have a government which specifically targets jews who learn full time and say no government aid for you.

In the US you don't have a law forcing all jews to go to the army for 3 years which essentially destroys any holiness you may have built up until then. Greatly increasing the chance that you will go off the derech.

In the US you don't have rockets flying over your head constantly - and frankly you are not allowed to live in a place of danger. Would you be able to say that your holy enough that hashem will protect you from the murderous arabs or their rockets?

I can keep going on and on. And im not saying Israel is a terrible place. Just saying that unless you are a rich person who can live near the kotel - you are likely going to end up in a place where women dress worse than they do in the US. At least in the US you have the winter where every woman finally remembers what it's like to dress modestly - not so in israel. 24/7 they wear their mini skirts and whatnot.

There are plenty of big rabbeim such as R. Mizrachi who explain very clearly about when it is beneficial and not to move to israel. It's not a simple case of every jew must move. Not every jew can or should. When moshiach comes Hashem will gather us in israel.

Everyone on these sort of blogs thinks that all the jews in the US care that much about their houses and "SUVs" as if everyone even has a house and an SUV. Well let me drop this mind blowing bomb, the majority of jews i know - even those who DO own a house and an SUV would LOVE to move to israel. But they know that now is not the right time, not for their family, not financially or mentally. They don't care about the materialistic world anymore than you do.

I'm not saying every american jew is like this - you have the bad apples just like you do in israel.

So end point, unless you're some great gadol, its better not to spout what you don't know and simply say all jews must come to america. Unless Hashem spoke to you and told you to do so - you probably shouldn't look down on your exiled brothers some contemptuously. Don't forget why the first temple was destroyed. History tends to repeat itself.

Pity on the poor beautiful bride whose groom flaunts her passing blemishes so that he can with a clear conscience ditch her for the simple maidservant who has cast her spell on him

Just realized that in my rush to get the post out i mistyped several isntances of israel instead of america and visa versa...but it should be clear to the reader what the intent was.

You Dan however, did not read my whole post or chose to simply ignore it and post nice stories about your poor bride allusions.

Poor bride whose husband lives in a place where modesty is forgotten and gods laws are flauted like a joke.
